Two days on Lake Garda are enough to fall in love with it. With Sirmione as your base, you can explore the lake's most famous peninsula, swim in crystal-clear waters, visit medieval villages and savour Garda cuisine. Here is the perfect itinerary.
Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and one of Europe's most beautiful. In a weekend you can experience its best facets: the jewel of Sirmione in the south, the charming villages of the Veronese shore, and perhaps an excursion northward into the Trentino mountains. With Sirmione as your starting point, everything is within easy reach.
Day 1 โ Sirmione
Morning
Scaligero Castle and historic centre
Arrive early to visit Scaligero Castle just as it opens (9:00), before the crowds. Then stroll through the historic centre among alleys, craft shops and breathtaking lake views. A gelato stop is mandatory.
Lunch
Lake fish in the historic centre
Choose a typical restaurant with lake views to try lavarello risotto or coregone alla mugnaia, paired with a glass of fresh Lugana white wine.
Afternoon
Spiaggia delle Muse or Lido delle Bionde
The afternoon is dedicated to swimming in the lake. Crystal-clear water, rocky bottom (water shoes!), guaranteed sunshine. For Spiaggia Giamaica bring a snorkel mask.
Evening
Aperitivo on the lakefront and dinner
Aperitivo with Spritz or Lugana while the sun sets over the mountains. Dinner in one of the village restaurants, then an evening stroll among the castle's illuminated walls.
Day 2 โ The Lake Villages
Morning
Lazise โ medieval village on the Garda
30 minutes from Sirmione, Lazise is one of the most beautiful villages on Lake Garda: intact medieval walls, harbour, lively square. Breakfast at the piazza cafรฉ and visit to the Venetian castle.
Lunch
Bardolino โ wineries and the lake
Bardolino is the wine capital of the Garda. Light lunch at a wine bar with a charcuterie board and a glass of Bardolino Classico red. The lakefront is beautiful for a post-lunch stroll.
Afternoon
Punta San Vigilio โ the most beautiful bay on the Garda
The Baia delle Sirene at Punta San Vigilio is considered by many to be the most beautiful beach on Lake Garda. Paid access, emerald waters, olive trees and a historic villa. A timeless place.
Evening
Return to Sirmione
Return to Sirmione for the final dinner: you've already found your favourite spots. One last evening walk on the lakefront with the mountain lights reflected in the water.

FAQ
How to get between Lake Garda villages?
The car is the most convenient option. Alternatively there are regular ferries (Navigarda) connecting the main villages โ slower but scenic. Distances between Sirmione, Lazise and Bardolino are 25-40 km.
Is a Lake Garda weekend worth it in autumn?
Absolutely yes. September and October are magnificent seasons: fewer crowds, lower prices, autumnal light over the vineyards and waters still pleasant for swimming in September.
What budget for a Lake Garda weekend?
Estimate โฌ60-120 per person per day for accommodation (sharing a villa costs less), โฌ25-50 for meals, โฌ10-20 for admissions and transport. With Casa Ambra shared among several people, costs drop significantly.
